A few weeks back or so, I had the clutch assembly replaced for
the manual transmission in my vehicle. I have had the clutch replaced before,
of course. And maybe even a recently as
a couple of years back was the last time the clutch was replaced.
This time, however, I was most impressed by my own
diagnostic abilities, if I might be so bold as to boast. Because, while the gears seemed to shift
fine, before I would start the vehicle I would often hear some type of clacking
noise when I would depress the clutch pedal.
Additionally, the clacking noise only seemed to be heard before the vehicle
had warmed up to operating temperature.
As it turns out, the shifting fork as well as the pivot
point on which the shifting fork pivots had fractured and were broken. As part of the clutch repair effort, these items
were also replaced.
It all seems good for at least another hundred thousand miles
or so, now. : )
